Incredible—if controversial—athlete, one-half of the world’s best-looking couple, UGG-wearer, and, as we just learned, enthusiastic-as-hell nutritional guide author; those are just some of the ways we’d describe walking Ken doll Tom Brady. We want to add supremely stylish to the list, because the usually Tom Ford-ed out Patriots QB usually is, but yesterday in NYC his style game hit a snag.
Brady came this close to giving us a perfect outfit, one worthy of his prolific status as sports (and often style) legend, one that we’ve seen him deliver on in the past. Above the ankle was fine, great even, from the newsboy cap (not advisable, this belongs to the ultra handsome Bradys and Beckhams of the world) to the slim gray half-zip and black jeans. Even the sunglasses garnered a thumbs up.
But when it came to footwear, Brady just dropped the ball. Instead of a clean white sneaker or a suede chelsea boot or a classic leather dress shoe or a beat-up boot—anything, really—Brady opted for a performance-driven running shoe from his contractually-defined favorite athletic brand Under Armour. To be clear, there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with these sneakers. They just belong in the gym or on the field, not as the foundation for a Cool Family Outing™ kit. The sneakers turned Brady’s fit into something we’d expect to see on a bench-warming old man at the mall instead of on one most celebrated A-list athletes of the last century. Next time, Tom, leave the #sponsored kicks in the locker room. They’re messing with that whole Benjamin Button thing you have going on.
