Spotted: Taylor Swift looking like a 90s nightmare at the BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills, where she was lauded for her songwriting. Less praiseworthy was the Monique Lhuillier dress she chose to wear :/
This is…I mean…??? Let’s start from the top down: I think we see by now that this bleached blonde look is not working for T’s skin tone, because it doesn’t work for anyone’s skin tone. So one-note and neon, it’s just so unflattering compared to her natural baby blonde locks.
The spray tan is equally atrocious, giving her a weird non-matching glow in this photo. Hopefully that can be blamed on poor lighting.
Now, about that dress…
Let me tell you something: My big sister lived, actually really lived through the genuine 90s and it was a chilling, hideous time indeed. There wasn’t one single trend that was worthy of keeping around, and this dress proves why. Despite being a Monique Lhuillier gown, it looks like a castoff from 1998. Bias cut, velvet dresses with spaghetti straps are incredibly unflattering and make even the most fab of figures look shapeless.
But, snaps to T for her awesome achievement–in songwriting, that is.
“She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone. We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is,” gushed the presenter when giving T her award.
Yay for you, Tay, but pardon me while I grieve for your missed opportunity to dominate not only the music world, but the red carpet as well. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess…xoxo
